Seriously, she's worn 16 different ensembles since the year 2000.
Ring the alarm, Beyhive! It’s almost time for the 2014 Video Music Awards. Not only is flawless human Beyonce nominated for Video of the Year for “Drunk in Love,” but—just announced!—she’s also performing at the show and receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Bey’s appearance will mark the 10th time she’s attended the VMAs.
But, of course, Bey has way more than nine outfits. She’s come a long way from coordinating with Michelle and Kelly under the watchful eye of Tina Knowles and the House of Dereon. Let’s discuss all of Beyonce’s VMA lewks below, OK?
2000: EDGY RHINESTONE ROCK

Before Beyonce was running the world, she and the House of Dereon were busy coordinating matching outfits for Destiny’s Child. Here we find the women of Destiny’s Child wearing head-to-toe black leather from the choker that Kelly Rowland to the studded boots that Michelle Williams is wearing. What really pulls the look off is the set of matching sculpted leather corsets, each outfitted with hundreds of little rhinestones and complemented with hot pants (Kelly), leather pants (Michelle Williams) and a maxi skirt (Bey). To go even deeper into this look, you can watch archival footage of Destiny’s Child getting ready for the 2000 VMAs on House of Style ! 2001: CORAL FRINGE AND TURQUOISE ACCESSORIES

If it wasn’t abundantly clear that the ladies of Destiny’s Child call Texas home, consider this official statement that they made at the 2001 MTV VMAs. Between the coral fringed outfits, turquoise jewelry, and boots, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear their ensembles came with wolf howls and Kokopelli iconography for that complete Southwest experience. 2001: EARLY AUGHTS ROBIN HOOD

Destiny’s Child was pulling double duty as both guests and presenters in 2001, and what does double-duty mean? Double the outfits, of course! The trio went with denim outfits that there were laced up in different combinations. Can we assume she’s not gonna bring back the denim and feather hat this year? 2003: THE RISE OF BEYONCE

2003 was the year that Beyonce released her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, but it was also the year the VMAs got a taste of Beyonce the performer and quick-change artist with one hell of an entrance. For her performance, Queen Bey floated down to the stage headfirst wearing red and gold harem pants, gold heels, and a gold halter top with bow detail.

Which she later upgraded to gold hot pants and a fox fur stole.

And, um, is that a crystal belly ring? Yep. It was early aughts—we were all a little “crazy in love” with some body jewelry. (In fact, some of us still are…)

Unsurprisingly, Beyonce won three out of the four awards that she was nominated for. And she collected all of them wearing a sparkly gold trench dress. 2004: ALL GOLD EVERYTHING

While Austin Powers: Goldmember might have been released two years prior to this red carpet appearance, the film and her character Foxxy Cleopatra were still making ripples in Bey’s wardrobe. She showed up to the 2004 VMAs looking like 24K Barbie in a gold shorts suit with a jewel-encrusted collar and cuffs and gold strappy heels. 2005: DREAMGIRL

2005 was the year that Beyonce transitioned from gold to another precious metal: silver. It was the also the year that Beyonce was in Dreamgirls, and her silver, crystal-infused dress with its ’70s silhouette seems like a love letter to Diana Ross and the rest of the Supremes. The wooden hoop earrings and bangles are refreshingly on point as well.

Later on the white carpet, Michelle and Kelly joined Bey in ruched lime-green and blue body-skimming dresses. Like every great girl-group photo, there’s a common thread that ties all of their outfits together. This time it’s the crystal accents on their bodices, shoes, and jewels. 2006: RING THE ALARM

Beyonce is a consummate professional, and like a hyper-bodied phoenix, she only appears more polished and beautiful every single time she appears. You thought last year’s Dreamgirls-inspired outfit was all that? Cute. Beyonce’s art piece/dress at the 2006 VMAs not only had crystal enhancements, but also faceted metal accents.

Here we find Beyonce, or what I like to call the return of Spider-Yonce, from the 2003 VMAs. This time Spider-Yonce one-upped our neighborhood-friendly web-slinger by dropping from the ceiling in a floor-length, oversized khaki trench and over-the-knee patent leather boots. Very Inspector Gadget. But, like, hot.

Midway through her performance, the Fashion Police try to take Beyonce away, but she shrugs them off and reveals her second performance outfit: a printed corset over a long-sleeved bodysuit, leather gloves, and those boots. 2007: GODDESS ASCENDANT

Beyonce arrives to the 2007 MTV VMAs in a leggy, grecian Reem Acra frock in what else? Her favorite color: gold. 2009: SINGLE LADIES BEYONCE

Beyonce opted for a more traditional red carpet look for the 2009 MTV Video Awards. This time she opted for a short, fire-engine red dress designed by Roberto Cavalli. Bey wore it onstage to accept her award for Video of the Year for “Single Ladies” and took the opportunity to share the spotlight with Taylor Swift.

Her performance outfit, however, was anything but traditional. Beyonce showed up in a silver appliqué bodysuit with one metallic Lorraine Schwartz glove. What else would you wear while doing fancy Fosse footwork? 2011: BABY BUMP BEYONCE

Beyonce showed up looking gorgeous (but, really, when doesn’t she?) in an orange, one-shouldered Lanvin. But it wasn’t until her performance later that evening that she really surprised us.

And for this year? We’ll know soon, y’all. Maybe she’ll announce that she’s adopting all of us, while wearing a ball gown made of pure, spun gold and a crown of Moonman statuettes. We can hope, right?
